KEY QUESTIONS
What were the perpetrators like, as ordinary human beings? Looking back, what do the killers think about their part in the genocide?

This lesson is intended as a close-up look at the state of mind of the perpetrators of the genocide, or in fact any person who lives a double life involving extreme violence.
The phenomenon of the SS guards from Auschwitz who were kind to their children has long held confronting suggestions about how the human mind can work. It is an intense and troubling reality of any war. This lesson tries to engage students in this dark irony.

AIMS AND PURPOSE

To have all students complete a mind-map as a way of exploring particular ideas in the text.

There are four PDFs included with this lesson:-
A two-page lesson plan covering the key questions, aims, resources needed and a detailed outline of the suggested method and activities.
Two sets of handouts ready for printing.
A set of presentation slides for class discussion.
